Specializing in waterfront, historical and southern cottage style homes, Bob Chatham is an award winning, second - generation residential designer that has been designing custom homes for over 35 years. He has been a professional member of the American Institute of Building Design for over 30 years and is a member of the National Association of Home Builders.
As an Alabama Gulf Coast native, Bob has spent years designing charming cottages all along the gulf coast’s beautiful landscape. His designs can be found in areas of Mississippi, Florida, Mobile and throughout the lovely small towns of Baldwin County like Fairhope and Point Clear. His distinct design style focusing on an abundance of windows, large porches, and natural design elements featuring decorative roof brackets and exposed beams, compliment the landscape and add to the nostalgic charm of waterfront communities in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Perdido Key, extending into Florida’s Scenic Highway 30A and beyond.
He gained notoriety in the 1990s for his wildly popular Charleston Collection that was featured in many national architectural publications. His classic low country designs, popular for their charming southern style with large porches and breezy balconies, had a notable presence in Charleston and surrounding areas.
He was the first in Alabama to design an NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) certified Green home. The plans and building process were subject to inspection for compliance with Green energy building standards of sustainability, water, energy and resource efficiency, along with indoor environmental air quality. The home earned an impressive Gold rating for energy efficiency.
Bob’s creative vision, along with his clear understanding of wetland areas, flood zones, easements and related lot constraints has led to his ability to masterfully design a perfectly unique creation with the right balance between practicality and luxury on even the most challenging of lots.
Working with developers in the area Bob has been awarded the creative freedom to design entire residential communities along the Gulf Coast of Alabama. His designs may also be seen in many Showcase homes in Mobile and Baldwin Counties over the span of his career.
Bob is a 2021, 2022, 2023 & 2024 American Institute of Building Design award winner.
